Established in 2000, Cuneiform Press is a 501(c)3 literary arts nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas. Cuneiform specializes in publishing poetry, artists’ books, and scholarly writing with an emphasis on enriching the humanities. Cuneiform is committed to publishing enduring works that negotiate critical and creative thinking, merging the latest industry trends with historically-informed typographic practices to foreground the state of the book in our contemporary cultural climate.
Cuneiform enlivens the future of cultural literacy by bringing meaningful texts and images together in the form of quality publications. In addition to publishing, the organization facilitates dialogues between local and international writers, students, artists, scholars, and artisans. To that end, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, internships, research, and public outreach are an essential part of Cuneiform Press’ daily operations.
Cuneiform Press’ goal is to continue to publish significant writings on the humanities, poetry, artists’ books, and works that challenge our notions of what these genres might be.
The Advisory Board consists of: Steve Clay (Granary Books); Johanna Drucker (UCLA, Education and Information Studies); Buzz Spector (Washington University in St Louis, Art); and Steve Woodall (Logan Collection Specialist for the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts at the Legion of Honor). The Board of Directors consists of: Jed Birmingham; Sarah Gautier; Julie Kantor; Travis Kent; Brad King; Max Koch; and Kyle Schlesinger.
Cuneiform Press books are collected by hundreds of private and public libraries worldwide, and distributed by Small Press Distribution in Berkeley, California and Distributed Artists Publications in New York City.
